| UTas Website |
|
It is recommended that you also make yourself familiar with the UTas website. Teaching resources, library resources, unit and course handbooks and administrative student information is freely available. Many forms referred to in this guide required by Student Centre are available on-line. |

|
| Email |
|
All students will automatically obtain an email account from ITS, which will appear on the top of correspondence from the Student Centre. This service will enable you to contact lecturers to arrange appointments and answer straight-forward queries. Lecturers cannot always answer individual's questions regarding their unit via email, nor may they be prepared to answer queries regarding examinations via e-mail. |

| Computer usage |

Authenticated Internet Access
Any attempts to browse the internet beyond the University site from any University computer will require authentication. POP account and email password are required for access. Contact the help desk (x1818) at the Morris Miller Library or check enrolment forms for this information. This process is designed to monitor internet usage so a breakdown of internet volume can be obtained. There are obviously some privacy issues involved as a list of sites visited and download volumes will be recorded against your POP account. It is strongly suggested that users in labs - both in Pharmacy and elsewhere on campus - close any active browser windows prior to vacating their machine.
Computers are available in the Pharmacy Computer Lab. These computers run some Pharmacy specific programs, word-processing, spreadsheets and other applications. The dot matrix printers at each computer station in PPL must not be used to print out non-pharmacy work, or lecture notes/teaching material. Laser printers are available in the PPL and PCR. Printing is charged via a University administered scheme. Prospective payment is required for this service and may be conveniently made through the ITS HelpDesk (located at the Morris Miller Library) as well as other points around the campus. Computers are available at several other sites on campus including The Underground computer lab directly opposite the front entrance to Pharmacy. All the School computers are connected to the University network and the internet. After hours access to some computer labs can be arranged through ITS.
Students unfamiliar with computer use should have attended introductory courses offered by Information Technology Services (ITS) or watched the relevant video tapes before doing so. The tapes are available through ITS.
The use of any School computer in an inappropriate way by any student is seen as grossly improper. You are expected at all times to behave responsibly - no eating or drinking in the lab - including no playing games, music CD's or MP3 players on the computers and no loud noise. Copyright material (music, videos etc) is not to be downloaded or stored on the computers, server or other devices. This is a prosecutable offence. Non-Pharmacy students are not allowed into the lab. No changes are to be made to any computer systems or applications without the approval of the Head of School. Read the Computer Users Policy. |
