Getting Started

Enrolment and Orientation Year 1

Enrolment and Orientation (inc Hons, GradDip, Masters and PhD)

The School holds an orientation session for new students who being in semester 1 on the Friday before that semester begins. This includes introductions to personnel, where to find other departments and timetable information. It is a valuable session to attend. You will also receive a booklet version of the content included on these webpages for information for new students.

It is essential that you arrange for an ID card through the Student Centre (needed for borrowing from the Library).

You will automatically receive a UTas email address which should be supplied with the paperwork sent to you. In addition to many other uses, staff will use your UTas email address to send you messages and information. For current unit matters the University's online program, MyLO, will also keep you informed of lecture variations. It is in your interest to check this and your UTas email regularly.

The University has a website specifically for student in their first year at UTas. A wide range of information is available at this site, including enrolment information, campus maps, and much more.

Available (limited) for $20.00, refundable on return of key, from Mr Whitty.

 

All stationery, including staples and sticky tape are your own responsibility (some items are made available in the lab).

PLEASE DO NOT ask reception for these items.

 

The essential text(s) needed for each unit are listed on the Handbook webpage. You are advised to consult the appropriate lecturer before purchasing any textbooks.

A laboratory coat and safety glasses are required for practical work. Lecture material is sold by UniPrint, please check Lecture note sales for details of availability and cost.
