Occupational Health and Safety and Safety in the Labs

First Aid

Under UTas guidelines, qualified First Aid Officers are only allowed to administer first aid.

Dr Traill, Mr Whitty, Mrs Galloway, Mrs Hadolt, Mrs Holmes and Mrs Ford are qualified First Aid Officers.

First Aid Cabinets are located around the building; there is one in each laboratory. University policy does not allow medication to be supplied to students. A comprehensive code of practice and guidelines is given in the Chemistry Building Safety Manual. Knowledge of First Aid is important for all members of the community and especially health professionals who may find that people will seek your advice if someone is hurt or injured. A First Aid certificate is a requirement for registration as a pharmacist and it is encouraged that students actively meet this criteria early.

Fire Drill

The School fire drill for emergency evacuation of the building is detailed on the undergraduate student's noticeboard outside the laboratories and a copy is attached. Exits from laboratories and lecture rooms have evacuation routes displayed. There are regular practice sessions through the year - and occasional real evacuations.
