Attendance and Performance

You are expected to attend all classes, lectures, tutorials, practicals and clinical rounds. If you have missed classes, for any reason, then you should speak to the lecturer involved about how to make up the work. Unexplained absences from pracs are unacceptable, especially as material covered in pracs may be examinable and cannot be repeated. If you have a regular problem with attendance, or anticipate being absent for a compelling reason, you must see the Head of School as soon as possible to discuss your options. You are also expected to attend all clinical rounds at hospitals and community pharmacies and you must wear the identification badge that will be supplied to you in first semester. Unexplained absences from clinical rounds are not acceptable.

University rules regarding contact time are contained within Rule 74. A full set of University Ordinances, By-Laws and Rules is given on the University's website.

The relevant section is contained below:

7.1 A student enrolled in a unit must –
a) attend at least two thirds of the lectures, tutorials and practical classes given in that unit, or any greater proportion that is specified in the relevant assessment procedures; and
b) perform to the satisfaction of the assessors any tests, exercises and practical work that are set by an assessor – unless exempted by the head of the school.

Students who miss more than a third of classes, or who do not perform satisfactorily in assignments, practicals or clinical rounds, may be ineligible to sit for examinations and so fail the unit.

Students are required to supply a medical certificate covering any extended absences due to illness to the Office Manager, who will forward confirmation of relevant dates to the student's lecturers. All information other than absent dates is kept confidential unless the student requests specific information be forwarded.

During years 3 and 4 Students may be required to attend assigned clinical and professional teaching sites outside of Hobart . These placements involve costs to the student for travel and accommodation. Students spend a substantial time away from the campus in year 4 due to placements. (see also Dress Code )
