Research Higher Degrees

Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) M8C
Master of Medical Science (MMedSc) M8B

Requirements for RHD

Applicants are expected to have a minimum of a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours degree (BPharm(Hons)) from the University of Tasmania or another university or tertiary institution which is deemed equivalent. Applicants to the School who have a bachelor degree, but no Bachelor of Pharmacy, may like to apply for the Master of Medical Science M8B.

A Masters degree usually takes a minimum of two years full-time study or 3 years part-time and is concerned with the personal skill development of the student.

The Master of Pharmacy degree is undertaken by students who aim to develop the intellectual skills required for independent research. It is important to realise that the nature of research study is different from undergraduate work, but the challenge and opportunities are stimulating for students who wish to acquire these new skills. Training and experience in research brings personal benefits, through the acquisition of analytical and communication skills, regardless of whether your future career involves research or other professional activities. The responsibility for developing these skills falls mostly on the student, who is supported by the academic staff, one of whom is designated to be the supervisor.

Study is available in one of the School's theme areas, clinical pharmacy/pharmacology, pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical sciences or chemical ecology and toxicology. Proposed topics for research can be found on the School's website, and supervisors areas of interest are listed under academic staff entries.
