Alternate Pathway to Pharmacy

From 2007 the University of Tasmania will accept into the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree up to 5 Australian and 2 international applicants each year on the basis of performance in an approved degree at the University of Tasmania.

Approved degrees offered within the Faculty of Health Science are:

and offered within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology are: BSc, BBiotech, BEnvSc.

To be eligible to apply for the available places, applicants must have:

  • completed a full-time year of study at the University of Tasmania in one of the listed degrees in the year prior to the proposed BPharm enrolment
  • achieved a Grade Point Average of at least 6 (a distinction average)
  • satisfied the year 12 prerequisites for the BPharm - TCE pre-tertiary Chemistry (CHM5C) and Mathematics Methods (MME5C) or equivalent.

Students who complete appropriate units in the course prior to applying for Pharmacy may be granted credit for those units in the Bachelor of Pharmacy. It should be noted that, at this stage, this will not reduce the number of years of study in the Bachelor of Pharmacy, but students granted credit may have reduced workloads in some years of the program. Interested student should seek advice from the School of Pharmacy about units that may attract credit prior to undertaking the alternate entry program.

Don't have a prerequisite?

The Schools of School of Chemistry and School of Mathematics each offer a bridging course over summer. For further information see:
